FAQs
How do I get started for therapy or an assessment?
Getting started with therapy or an assessment at Psychwest is simple. You can call us, email us, or enquire through our website and our administration team will contact you to book your first appointment. If you are seeking an assessment, you can begin with or without a referral.
Do I need a referral to book with Psychwest?
Referrals are optional. If you do not have a referral, you can choose to pay privately.
Rebates are available for therapy, but unfortunately assessment sessions are not eligible for a rebate under a Mental Health Care Plan.
The Diagnostic Assessment Plan for Complex Neurodevelopmental Disorders referral allows clients under the age of 25 assessing for Autism to claim rebates on the assessment process. Most assessment sessions under this plan will be available to claim for rebates.
Can I use my Private Health Insurance for therapy and assessments?
Every person’s Private Health Insurance coverage may be different, so we encourage you to check with your provider. If you have psychology benefits within your coverage, then you may be able to claim a rebate on some sessions.
What type of assessments do you offer at Psychwest?
At Psychwest, we offer assessments for:
How do I pay for my assessment?
You can either pay in full at the beginning of the assessment, or you can pay across the sessions.
Do I need to be diagnosed by a Clinical Psychologist?
No - in Australia, both Clinical Psychologists and General Psychologists can conduct diagnostic assessments if they have the right training and experience.
At Psychwest, all assessments are completed by fully qualified General Psychologists who hold the appropriate qualifications and specialised training in psychometric assessment and neurodevelopmental conditions. Our psychologists are experienced in identifying ADHD and cognitive challenges through the use of gold-standard assessment tools and evidence-based diagnostic approaches.
Will I be assessed by a Psychologist or a Psychiatrist?
At Psychwest, you will be assessed by a Psychologist. Whilst we understand that medication is important when necessary, we encourage taking a holistic approach to ADHD management. We have Psychiatrists we can recommend who can prescribe and manage your medication (if needed) after our assessments are completed.
What happens after my diagnosis?
Your Psychologist is here to help you after receiving your diagnosis. They will guide you through the next steps to help you understand your results and explore options for management of your diagnosis.
Are payment plans available?
We offer payment plans for assessments. Speak to our admin staff about payment plan options to see if this is right for you.
